Retno Lestari Priansari
Marsudi (born in Semarang, Central Java, November 27, 1962; age 52 years [1])
is the first female Minister of Foreign Affairs [2] Indonesia who served from October
27, 2014 in the Cabinet of the President's Joko Widodo. Previously he served as
Ambassador of Indonesia to the Kingdom of the Netherlands in The Hague. She was
educated at the upper secondary SMA 3 Semarang before finally earned S1nya at
Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta, in 1985. [3] She then earned a law S2 EU
Haagse Hogeschool, Netherlands.
Description
Upon graduation from university,
she joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1997 to 2001, Marsudi served
as First Secretary for Economic Affairs at the Indonesian Embassy in The Hague,
Netherlands. In 2001, she was appointed as Director of Europe and America
Affairs.[2] Marsudi was promoted to Director of West Europe Affairs in
2003.[3]In 2005, she was appointed as the Indonesian Ambassador for Norway and
Iceland.[2] During her tenure, she was awarded the Royal Norwegian Order of
Merit in December 2011, makes the first Indonesian to obtain the award.[4] She
also briefly take up studies of human rights at the University of Oslo. Prior
to her tenure finished, Marsudi returned to Jakarta and appointed as General
Director of Europe and America Affairs, which is responsible for supervising
Indonesia's relations with 82 countries in Europe and America.Marsudi was
appointed as Indonesian Ambassador to the Netherlands in 2012.[2] She has also
led various multilateral negotiations and bilateral consultations with the EU,
ASEM, and FEALAC.[2] On 27 October 2014, she was appointed as Minister of
Foreign Affairs by President Joko Widodo in his Working Cabinet.[5]
